HIPPY

The Safe Children Coalition, Inc. (SCC) believes that positive change only comes about when we invest in our children, our health and our neighbors. In order to meet the needs of our community, SCC developed the continuum programs that emphasize providing direct support to at-risk, minority, low-income, low-achieving, and other disadvantaged youth, as well as youth who are not on track to graduate and those at greater risk of becoming involved with gangs, substance use, criminal activity and/or any other delinquent behaviors. These youth are identified and referred to programs by school administrators, teachers, parents or self.

Preschool may not be an option for every family. That should not mean that a child will not be prepared for school. Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is a home-based, early childhood education program for two, three, four and five year old children. HIPPY families welcome an educator to their home for one hour a week for role playing activities, reading and writing lessons, and each month the family meets at the HIPPY center for parenting classes. Through these activities parents become actively involved in their children’s education, develop their early learning skills and create a new, meaningful bond with their children.
