Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers graciously provide their time and talents to help us fulfill our mission. As a volunteer, you can provide much needed support to our children, families, and staff as we carry out the most important work of saving the lives of children in our community.

If you are interested in the volunteer opportunities below, please complete the volunteer inquiry form by clicking on the button at the bottom of this page.

CURRENT VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

INDEPENDENT LIVING MENTOR (positions filled at this time)
As a mentor for our youth, you will be paired with a young adult (between the ages of 18 - 23) participating in our Extended Foster Care program to assist with the teaching of life-skills. Mentors commit for 1 year to be available to a young adult for at least 3 hours per month, including attending designated life-skills workshops and other group activities, and at least (1) one-on-one mentoring activity in a public location once per month with the young adult. As a mentor, you will be taking the lead to serve as a role-model and guiding friend to a young adult. You’ll need time, flexibility, compassion, commitment, understanding, and patience. You’ll also need the ability to consistently show up - whether that’s in person, virtually, or some combination of those methods of communication - to build trust with your mentee.

RESPITE VOLUNTEER (multiple positions available)
Our Foster Families selflessly give of themselves to provide safe shelter to children who would otherwise not have a home. Thier work is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Respite volunteers help our foster parents to spend time away from home by providing short term care giving (babysitting) services to foster children in the home. The ideal volunteer will enjoy spending time with children and understand how trauma may affect a child’s behavior. You’ll need flexibility, patience, comfortability engaging with foster children and being the primary adult in the home for a specified period of time. As a respite volunteer, you could spend your care giving time playing games, or just being the adult in charge while foster children are watching a favorite television show or doing another activity. You’ll need to interact with foster children on their terms.

FAMILY FINDER VOLUNTEER (limited positions available)
As a Family Finder Volunteer you will assist our Family Finder team with making connections and interacting with family members of children who have relatives seeking to make connections and maintain relationships with them. You’ll assist by making phone calls to connect family members and document your efforts in the tracking system. You’ll also assist the team with providing updates on cases that need additional attention. This is an essential function of our Family Finder Team, and your efforts will be well appreciated as you assist us in helping children maintain contact with approved family members like aunts, uncles, and close family friends while they are separated through no fault of their own. Interested volunteers should have the ability to travel to our Northgate office, and be available between the hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
